Cheers! Kanpai! Many often indulge in alcohol, be it after a long day of work, or any festive celebration when family and friends gather. As alcohol plays a part of our lifestyle, over drinking may cause very serious problems to the body;
Brain Damage: Long term drinking can be addictive and become alcohol dependent which leads to permanent brain damage. Binge drinking can cause blackouts, memory loss and anxiety.
Cancer: Drinking alcohol is one of the biggest factors causing mouth, throat and liver cancers.
Heart and circulation: Alcohol is one of the main causes of hypertension which leads to other serious health problems like heart attack, stroke, and dementia. It also leads to the irregular heart movements like Cardiomyopathy (stretching and drooping of heart muscle), Arrhythmias (Irregular heart beat) and stroke.
Liver: Heavy drinking takes a toll on the liver, including inflammations like alcoholic hepatitis, fatty liver, and Fibrosis.
Immune System: Chronic drinkers tend to contract diseases more easily as their immune systems are weakened. They become a much easier target to diseases such as pneumonia and tuberculosis.
With the festive season just around the corner and everyone is looking to enjoy themselves with a drink or two, please exercise responsible drinking for yourself and the ones around you. Know your limits and do not drink too much! Stay cool folks!
